Area B1 International Speech and Table Topics Contest

Many thanks to the role players who were kind enough to lend us a helping hand throughout the whole contest. Thank you to the judges who spent their evening evaluating and cracking their heads to determine the winners and the enthusiatic crowd, which made the event merrier.
The event was attended by the MPM with their repesentatives, respective club committees, guests, friends and family. The food was wonderfully scrumptious and prepared by none other than the UNITAR Hospitality and Tourism students.A great complement to such an important event for us, the host - UNITAR Toastmasters Club and for the ever expanding Area B1.

First Club Contest 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen =) Welcome to the UNITAR Toastmasters Club Contest. It is a pleasure to have our fellow contestants soak their palms wet, guests excited to listen to the speeches, judges cracking their heads to choose a winner. It was an evening filled with the enthusiastic air, churning stomachs and nervousness...

For the first time, silence fell into place while each of us were waiting for the contest to start. Our dear President looked at our faces and said,"My gosh! You are all so quiet!", and everyone started laughing. When the contest is started, the Contest Chair reminded us about the house rules and without hesitation, invited our very first contestant - TM Syahiran with his title,"Time to Step Up to the Man." He started off with a scene from the American TV Series "Prison Break",helping us relate to his topic. The message of the speech was clear, drawing us all back to the first time we started in toastmasters till today - the comparison on how much we improved.

The contest continued with the next contestant, our lovely TM Noor Lukreiza with her speech title,"Save Energy, Save Money and Save the Environment."The speech was interesting, informative and very well illustrated with animated Power Point slides. She managed to bring awareness into the contest room, making us want to do something for ourselves and the environment.

The third contestant is no other than our beautiful TM Jess Foong who presented us with,"The Protector,The Provider and The Pal."It was a heartwarming speech about our gratitudes to each of our fathers. She shared with us her most wonderful experiences with her father and gave us a message to bring home - to "thank" our father, even though it is not Father's Day.

The last contestant is our very bubbly TM Nur Hafiz with his speech title,"MaidenRosen".A speech which is different from the others as it shows his passion for Japanese animation and also the good values of a human being. He shared with us about the animation's story of dolls whom were forced to murder each other in order to obtain a soul and become a perfect daughter. This story is meant to make us aware of who we are at the end of the day - a person who lies to everyone, inculding him/herself just to be on top,or a person who has a heart to live life honestly.

After the four contestants presented their speeches,a short 10minutes break relieved all of us.Time flew after a little chat here and there. The Table Topics Speech Contest started. The four contestants were - TM Syahiran, TM Noor Lukreiza, TM Nur Hafiz and TM Hui Shan. Our wonderful Contest Chair gave them a topic which goes,"To Achieve is To Believe."The 3 contestants were sent out, while the first contestant started his quest of a 2minute speech.Surprisingly, all four contestants did well for their impromtu speech.

Finally, ladies and gentlemen, the time has come for the annoucement to be made *drum rolls*

The Winner for the International Speech Contest goes to : TM Jess Foong!

and

The Winner for the Table Topics Speech Contest is: TM Hui Shan!

Congratulations to the winners!!They will face the music when they compete with Area B1's best speakers from other clubs.Thank You to the judges, ACS BH Gan and TM Sean from Shaklee Toastmasters.Thank You to the great audiences and congratulations for all the UNITAR Toastmasters members for making this contest a success!!

There will be a club meeting next Tuesday,17th February at the Executive Training Room,5pm.Please join us and witness two of our members who will attempt their "virgin speech"!! =)
