.::The Meeting in "Thailand"::.

It was yet another fun meeting of the UNITAR Toastmasters Club. After all the laughters and Thai speaking "classes", the air conditioner decided to break down...nevertheless =) everyone had a great time, including our wonderful guests!!! *clap hands*

Below were the role players that evening:

The meeting started with the introduction to the theme of the evening "Thai Fair".Lukreiza CC gave us small notes with information about the land of "SMILE", Thailand. It was very thoughtful of her.Our dear President, Julian CC introduced the "linking game" for table topics session.Despite the fact that it was the most ridiculous story ever...everyone laughed when it ended =D Right after that, our guest speaker, Poh Lin CC did the Values and Leadership Manual from the Leadership Excellence Series. Her speech inspired us to be aware of our values and put them to good use to lead our club.

Then it was crunch time after the break - prepared speech speakers to present their speeches! =) Lukreiza CC gave us yet another informative speech about the consequences of anger. As usual, she was helpful in giving us 5 tips to manage our anger and all these tips were as easy as "kacang putih". As for Jess CC, she made us laugh till we dropped off our chairs about her very first experience travelling to Thailand. All in all, both of them did well in their speeches.

Thank you to all our guests - Lai Lien CC, Kuang Shan CC, Johnson ACS,ALB, Poh Lin CC =) Thanks for joining in our meeting and we hope to see you again in our next mee to all the guestting!!!

Visit to D'Utama Advanced Club

Be prepared, be ready cause everything about this club is Advanced - ahead the game,I should say.Our UNITAR Toastmasters Club had the privilege to visit the D'Utama Advanced Club this past Thursday. Even the massive traffic jam and thundering rain could not stop our little group to join in such an important meeting. We have definitely learned more than a thing or two from such a knowledgeable meeting.

The evening's event included an important session about the global financial crisis we are currently facing. The facilitator for the discussion was Low Yat Seow, DTM and three panels were invited to share their opinions and advice with all of us who were present. The three panels were the under the spotlight for the evening - Mr.Benjamin Looi, Mr.Mohd Abdullah, Mr. Wong Kah Ting. They answered 4-5 questions each regarding the global financial crisis and boy,was it an interesting session.Even as students, we got ourselves hooked, wondering if we will be able to survive right after graduation or will we be able to commit with any liabilities in future and when will this recession finally be over...

Right after the break, 3 impressive speakers entertained us with their speeches. The first speaker was SK Khor, TM whose speech title was "Speak Right to Stay Alive". His speech is a tip or two for us to learn about communicating our thoughts with the boss. He elaborated on three important points, "Speak to Death", "Silence to Death" and "Speak Right to Stay Alive".All these points lead to an important action - observation comes before action.By making the audience laugh with his genuine anecdote,he also taught us that observation is crucial before we take any action.

The next speaker came up with a cheerful smile and immediately made us laugh from the beginning of his speech till the very last words of his story. "Talking to Women", a title that stirs curiousity in every men's mind and every women's heart.Kenneth Shee, TM shared with the audience his fair share of miscommunications with the women who were present in his life.Though he loves women affectionately and passionately,he told the audience his frustrations of understanding the mechanisms of a woman's mind. After making us laugh, closed to tearing he told us till today,he has not a single clue about the mysterious woman mind.

The last but not the least,it was Pooyan,TM who was also our guest speaker from NLP toastmasters club. His title for his 7th speech was "Leaders in Denial".Pooyan immediately relate each and everyone of the audience into his speech with an opening of questions -"Have we ever been challenged? Have we ever deny something that is happening?" The stage of denial exists in human beings, as told by Sigmund Freud as he,himself was in denial when he knows smoking will eventually kill him. The speaker gave us more information about other world leaders like Henry Ford, the automobile master in the 1920s who denied to improve the "T Model" vehicle, George Bush who was in denial when the nation decided to not vote for him and all these leaders were once successful but fail to accept challenged in the right manner. As a closing,Pooyan gave a thought to ponder upon - to deny or not to deny?

The evaluation session was top-notched,professionally handled and audiences were also given a change to evaluate the speakers or rather give a suggestion or two regarding the speakers' speech or style etc.It was a great experience for us from UNITAR Toastmasters Club.

Well,well...We enjoyed, we learned and we were inspired! Therefore,UNITAR Toastmasters would like to thank D'Utama Advanced Club for having us in their meeting =)

The speech marathon was such a sucess as it was graced by our amazing, wonderful, enthusiastic bunch of crowd!!Many thanks for Johnson Yike,ACS,ALB who attended the meeting even though it is his BIRTHDAY today!!! =) Thank you to our great and supportive mentor!!!

Sara did her second speech and managed to make us feel young once again with her energetic self-chorographed dance! Her speech title was "My Dream".She was bold, daring and definitely made us proud of her =) Hafiz gave us an in-sight with his speech "Who Are You,Who Am I?" A speech that made us all ponder about our inidividual identities and the price paid to fit into a crowd.Next would be our guest,Pooyan who did his speech entitled,"Bringing the Future to the Present".It was an inspiring speech about how we can contribute with a nobel goal and that when we think backwards, the future can be brought upon to the present.

The first advanced speaker of the day was Hui Shan who attempted her first assignment,"Speak Off the Cuff", from the Specialty Speeches Manual. The TME,Jess picked the title,"Plastic Surgery,Only For Emergency", for Hui Shan to talk about. She gave us a different perspective about plastic surgery, sharing a story and some information on plastic surgery. The last speaker of the evening was Syah who did his second assignment from the Entertainment Speaker Manual. His speech was entitled,"The Grass is Greener on the Other Side".Being a huge fan of football, his speech was about the current situation of Malaysian football, players who lose interest in playing for passion but for money, managers who only want entertaining games but not games with quality. He entertained us with information about football from other countries - how they start to recruit players and how they become successful today.

All the speakers did a great job and the evaluators gave us more tips to move on with our
next speech. We had a vote for the best speaker and best evaluator of the evening because of the number of guests and speakers available this past evening =)

The Results are:

Best Evaluator: Kimmy Foo,CC!!!

and

Best Speaker: Hui Shan,CC!!!

Say "NO" to Plastic

Do you use more than one plastic bag a day? Or do you re-use paper bags or woven bags to decrease the damage of plastic bags? If you consume a bottle of mineral water a day, you are one of the culprit who contributes to pollution of our environment.

So, do your part and say "NO" to Plastic!

"More Plastic, More Pollution. Less Plastic, A Good Solution", is our theme for our upcoming meeting on the 3rd of March 2009. Join us and support our theme, to reduce the use of plastic and help save the environment. Plastic is not a bio-degradable item, a big bad sign because it will not desolved into the earth even when it is buried or thrown into the sea and burning plastic simply causes more harm to the environment. When more plastic acumulate, the more damage it will cause to our lives and the environment.

Being concern about the environment and have yet to take any action? It is high time you put your thoughts into action =) Re-use your paper bags, buy a water tumbler and STOP using plastic!
