10/10/2010 You Are Not Alone

A summary on how the meeting went

OK, not really actually. There are at least 7 people, just enough to keep the show running but not enough for the fireworks, dolphin stunts, and canned laughter.

The theme of the meeting is favourite colours so here's the obligatory Double Rainbow song.

Congratulations to Azri for his inaugural 1st speech and Thompson for his 3rd speech! There are dormant, untapped potential within you guys that needs a bit of summoning and before it could materialize itself fully.

PS: You are now flipping the scroll wheel down manually.

Great sportsmanship!

The Sports-themed meeting at UniRazak went off with a bang with everyone contributing to the potluck. There was ice-cream, coco crunch, cookies, swiss rolls, boxed drinks, sweets and more than anyone can finish!

The sporting guests from Taylor's Toastmaster and regular members came clad in their sports attire, with ACB Julian Gan turning up in full paintball uniform.

The table topic session on sports also saw participation from the Taylor guest; Maggie, Stephaine, Kelly & Shahira, and UniRazak students Hui Shan, Nimmala and Julian.

More importantly, the meeting saw veteran Toastmaster Jefferey breaking a long spell of silence to complete his 5th speech, and Toastmaster Amir embracing the role as TME with ease.

It was a successful meeting because everyone displayed great sportsmanship!

Visit to CIMA Toastmasters Club

Visiting other toastmasters clubs have always been a fun treat for us. Just recently, we visited CIMA Toastmasters Club. They had a free and easy meeting with the official visit from their Area B2 Governor, Han Lee Hwee.

The Toastmaster of the Evening was Dinesh Kanna who hosted the meeting with humour and emphasized on punctuality. The energy of the meeting was kept at a good momentum especially during Table Topics Session where SEVEN brave souls (as they were called) went up and gave their best shot. The best table topics speaker was nabbed by our very own SAA, Hui Shan.

As the meeting progresses, CIMA TMC has a great surprise for their club members and also the Area B2 Governor. A cake was presented to the September babies - Ron, Ai Ling and Lee Hwee. It is definitely a moment that bonded the club members because of such a thoughtful gesture to present a lovely cake for those who celebrated birthdays in the same month.

When the meeting carried on, three speakers came forward to present their prepared speech -Michelle (KPMG), Ai Ling and Dinesh. Each of them entertained us in their own way and gave us a message to bring home. The best prepared speech speaker was presented to Dinesh Kanna.

The most significant time came; general evaluation session. The evaluators shared their opinions and points of improvement for the speaker while the role players informed us of their reports. Immediately after that, the best evaluator was won by Ron who evaluated on AiLing's Advance Story Telling speech (Lets Get Personal) entitled; Going back to my Hometown.

Lastly, Area B2 Governor Lee Hwee presented CIMA TMC with their President's Distinguished Club Ribbon for term 2009/2010. Though the meeting was attended by a small crowd, the energy level was kept up and everyone enjoyed themselves tremendously.

Episode Recap (And Welcome To The URGH!)

Your socially inept VPPR has emerged pale and white from his nuclear-proof underground bunker after 18 days of isolation under a privately-sponsored holiday program (not inclusive of physical therapy with Starcraft 2). With both fingers crossed behind my back, I promise I shall start updating the Toastmasters blog more frequently than ever*! And he just arrived feeling crammed and crispy back to witness the horrors of road rage in the Capital Wasteland.

PREVIOUSLY ON TOASTMASTERS SEASON 3

1. A survey team was dispatched to investigate the sudden appearance of a technologically advanced alien complex. Initial observation showed impressive technologies beyond the comprehension of man, such as a currency absorbing nutrient dispenser. Is the prophecy indeed right?

2. Desperate fight for survival: survivors from the doomed USS Tang (numbered NAY5526) fought an epic battle trying to establish a secure zone until the rescue team arrives. They had some nice plate of nasi campur not long after the rescue.

3. The grisly diner: what could've done such horrendous act of gastronomic atrocity?

4. Man-eating pidgeons: are they real?

----------

To the greenhorns and freshlings who had just registered at UNIRAZAK, welcome aboard to the unfortunately greatest time of your life. To the survivors of previous semester, welcome back to the URGH!

A Turbulent 7th July

War... war never changes. 7th of July is a date marked with grim and bloodshed. From simple fire and iron to complex chemical reaction, the destructive nature of man knows no bounds. Yet, man never managed to destroy the entire earth. Rather, each successive war presents uncertain implications to mankind's future, for better or for worse. For man had succeeded in laying waste to countries - but war, war never changes.

But hey, cheer up! 7th of July may have tons of conflicts and tragedies, yet by no means that a bleak history would ruin a fine Wednesday! Be grateful that all of us here are still breathing tax-free oxygen in this peaceful, neon-greenzone of ours. Also, it was on this date that sliced bread was invented! Now, onto our glorious next meeting...

DATE: Wednesday 7th of July 2010 (duh)

TIME: 1830 Hours - [subject to the level of fun]

LOCATION: TR39, Level 3, Kelana Mall, two floors above Pappa Rich Restaurant. Toastmasters fortunately does not charge 15% tax or serve RM8.90 prawn noodles with only two baby prawns swimming in the soup.

CONTACT: Jefferey "Gaga" Tang
No spamming or stalking!

HINT: Go to the third floor, examine the suspicious-looking door full of people behind the glass and press the 'X' button to open. If all else fails, simultaneously press L1, L2, R1, R2, SELECT, START to activate God Mode. Bring me some delicious cake as well! MESSAGE REMOVED BY TOASTMASTER ADMIN

Oh, and first post on this blog since becoming the VPPR for UNITAR Toastmasters! Pray that I have enough CARE packages (and a stable connection) to update often.
