.::Visit to TTDI Toastmasters Club::.

On the 2oth May 2009, the TTDI Toastmasters Club had their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and as followed by the regular meeting. Congratulations to all the new officers of TTDI TMC! It was an honour for two representatives of UNITAR TMC to be the witness of the AGM (Jess,CC,ALBand Hui Shan,CC). Since there was an AGM, the Table Topics Session was omitted due to time constraint. However so, there were 5 speakers to educate and entertain all of us during that evening.

The first speech was the "icebreaker" speech, "My First Cut" by Daniel Goh, TM. His speech took us on a journey of physical pain and edurance as he told us the story of his athlete injury that caused him to undergo a scary and painful operation. Like it or not,some of the audience(or most) were cringing when they listen to the speaker describe each and every detail of the operation.

The second and third speeches were the third project from the Competent Communicator Manual, "Get to the Point". Interestingly, both the speakers are related; a mother and son. Lee Han Rik,TM gave his speech "No or Yes" with simple day to day examples to enhance his message about weighing the importance on what we respond to people as the words "No" and "Yes" are key words to make decisions. The speech "Enjoy Your Day", took a different point as Angel Lim,TM shared with us the story of three natural disasters and how lucky she was to have escaped them just in time. Her message was to inspire us to live our life to the fullest and not wait till the very last minute to make a decision.

The next two speeches were from the Advanced Manuals; the "Storytelling" and "Speaking to Inform" manuals. The first advanced speaker was Marian Lee, ACB,CL with her speech title,"Keep It Up".Her story was a personal anecdote about her proficiency on speaking English and how she managed to improve herself since then. Her story was meant to inspire and motivate us to keep it up no matter what.

As for the next advanced speaker, Janice ACB,CL, she demonstrated and provided us information about eggs, titled "TAMAGO". She managed to capture our attention by using props such as, half-boiled egg boiler, red egg and so on. Though her speech was simple, she finally ended with a message where eating eggs are suppose to be done in moderation, boiling eggs at the right amount time and the exact amount of water - in life we need to spend in moderation, use money wisely at the right amount and time.

The meeting ended with the annoucement of the best speaker and best evaluator of the evening:

Best Speaker: Marian Lee,ACB,CL

Best Evaluator: Ivan Tan,ACB,CL

We would like to thank TTDI TMC for inviting us to their club meeting. Other than laughing and having fun throughout the meeting, we learned a few things and hope to be great achievers like them as they have been the President Disinguish Club for 9 years in a row! =)

The TTDI TMC holds their meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, 7.45pm-10pm at Wisma WIM. For further information, please click on their blog link =)
